A Proud Legacy Spanning Over Five Decades.

Founded in 1971, Nkhwazi Primary School is one of the longest-established private primary schools in Lusaka. From its earliest days, Nkhwazi has stood out for its commitment to excellence in primary education, combining strong academic foundations with a rich tradition of extracurricular involvement.

Originally located on Joseph Mwilwa Road in Rhodes Park, the school began with a small group of dedicated educators and a vision to provide high-quality, holistic education to the children of Lusaka. As enrolment grew and the need for expanded facilities became clear, the school relocated in 1992 to its current purpose-built campus on Ituna Road, situated on a spacious 4-hectare site that now houses modern classrooms, sports fields, and specialist learning spaces.

Evolution of Ownership and Management

Nkhwazi’s governance has evolved in tandem with its growth:

  • 1971–1988: Privately owned and operated by its founders.
  • 1988–1998: The school was run by ZCCM Ltd.
  • 1998–Present: Ownership transitioned to the Lusaka Hindu Association, a registered non-profit organisation. The Association continues to guide the school with a focus on educational quality, and inclusivity.

Our Educational Philosophy

Since its founding, Nkhwazi has remained committed to providing first-class primary education that prepares pupils for both local and international secondary school pathways. We believe in educating the whole child, balancing academic rigour with creative arts, sports, and personal development.

We are proud members of the Independent Schools Association of Zambia (ISAZ), which supports our pursuit of high standards, continuous improvement, and professional collaboration with other leading schools.

Looking Forward

With over 50 years of experience, Nkhwazi Primary School remains dedicated to innovation, inclusivity, and excellence. As we look to the future, we continue to invest in teacher development, facility upgrades, and curriculum enrichment — all in service of our mission to empower young learners for success in school and in life.
