School Day and Year

The School Day & Year

At Nkhwazi Primary School, our academic and extracurricular schedules are carefully structured to support high-quality learning and holistic development. Here’s how a typical day and year are designed for our pupils.

The School Day

Our school day is designed to balance structured learning with time for play, rest, and enrichment activities. It starts early and includes opportunities for pupils to refresh and re-energize throughout the day.

  • Start Time: 07:30 hrs
  • Morning Breaks: 09:15 hrs and 11:00 hrs
  • Lunch Break: 12:45 hrs
  • Afternoon Session: 14:15 hrs – 16:15 hrs (Extra-Curricular Activities)

Our afternoon programme is dedicated to extra-curricular activities (ECAs), allowing pupils to explore interests beyond the classroom. These include sports, clubs, creative arts, and academic enrichment opportunities that support a well-rounded education.

The School Year

The Nkhwazi academic calendar runs from January to December and is divided into three well-paced terms of 13 weeks each. Each term includes a half-term break, and longer breaks are scheduled between terms to allow pupils and teachers time to rest and recharge.

  • Term 1: January – April
  • Term 2: May – August
  • Term 3: September – December

Each academic year features a total of 13 weeks of holiday, divided as follows:

  • December/January Break: 5 weeks
  • April/May Break: 4 weeks
  • August/September Break: 4 weeks

Additionally, each term includes a half-term break of 4–5 days to ensure pupils remain rested and engaged throughout the term.
